Quantum Computing: What I'm Seeing
By Suhit Anantula, Advisor, SilverX Fund
Observations from the edge of a technology transition. Quantum computing's inflection point in 2025–2026 — what is real, what is hype, and where the investable opportunity actually is.
The State of Quantum in 2026
We are in the NISQ (Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum) era — quantum processors with 100–1000 qubits that are error-prone but increasingly useful for specific optimization and simulation problems. Fault-tolerant quantum computing (1M+ logical qubits) remains 5–10+ years away for most estimates.
Where the Investable Opportunity Is Now
- Quantum-safe cryptography — quantum computers threaten RSA and ECC encryption; post-quantum cryptography standards are creating immediate enterprise demand
- Quantum sensing — atomic clocks, gravimeters, and magnetometers with precision impossible for classical sensors
- Quantum simulation for materials science — drug discovery and materials research where quantum simulation provides advantage over classical methods
- Quantum software and algorithms — optimization algorithms that run on today's NISQ hardware for logistics, finance, and supply chain
